Marking the Solstice

SunDialEn el espiritu del Sexto Sol…

Today we mark the shadow on this sundial at sunrise.  This is the third time we make marks on the level flagstone altar with a plumb rod.  Last time we marked the Fall Equinox and before that the Summer Solstice.  This is to orient ourselves with the cosmic cycles so we are not so dependent on the dominant culture’s concept of time.  This is mostly a learning process, we intend to build a tower or place our marker up in our tree platform so we can really keep track of the sunrise and sunset on the horizon.  Our next plan is to start marking the full moons and the emergence of the planets.  This effort is dedicated to Maestro Andres Segura, que descanse en paz, who taught me about Tonalamatl and the importance of agriculture, the awareness of the passage of time and cosmic cycles, and the development of consciousness…
